Last year was a turbulent year for many people, but Mouse and Pen thinks 2010 will be better. As the first post for the New Year, a note about the great Dr. Seuss classic Oh, the Places You’ll Go! is appropriate.
We often hear the story quoted with friends and family, particularly around graduation times, since it was written as a graduation speech. However, the story has inspirations for business also.
If you haven’t read it in awhile (the text is here), it might be worth five minutes of your time. Among a world that’s more complicated and complex, I found it to be simple. Apply the simplicity of the story to your strategic planning for 2010.
For instance, keep your marketing messages easy-to-understand, since your audiences don’t have time to stop and figure out layered communications. Simple wins.
Such a quick-read somehow captured the essence of life’s “Great Balancing Act,” while keeping the big picture of the entire journey- in your personal life and in business – in perspective.
Here is the last page of the book – my favorite page:
Be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray
Or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O’Shea,
You’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So…get on your way!
No matter what 2010 brings you – and hopefully all good things, naturally – best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year! You and your business are off to great places and will accomplish great things.
